Baggage Information
Please note that additional security and baggage restrictions may be imposed at the airport without prior notice.
Security Screening
All bags are screened out of Durham Tees Valley Airport, regardless of whether it is carried onto the aircraft or checked in. Some luggage may require additional screening by authorised security staff.
Please be aware that wrapped packages may be opened for inspection when brought as cabin baggage.
All laptop computers and electronic devices are scanned separately and will need to be removed from their carrying case at the security checkpoint.
Passengers are prohibited from taking certain items on board an aircraft. Liquids and gels in individual containers not exceeding 100ml may be taken on board the aircraft in cabin baggage, provided they are in a transparent, re-sealable plastic bag and the contents are in the original packaging.
Other items are restricted on board an aircraft. For more information on these and other government security requirements please go to the Department for Transport website.
Special Items
Identification: Your passport or ID will be checked at the airport, before you board your flight. This must be carried at all times, do not place identification in luggage to be checked-in.
Medication: Medication should always be stored in cabin baggage. All medication should be in the original container and carry the original pharmaceutical label. Syringes must have the needle guard intact.
Keys: Car and house keys should be placed in cabin baggage. Excelsis Airways do not accept responsibility for any cost incurred due to the loss of such items. Please ensure that key-chains / key-rings comply with the department for transport list of permitted and prohibited items.
Jewellery: Jewellery and other valuables should always be placed in cabin baggage.
Electronic Devices: Provided they are within weight and size limitations, electronic devices should be placed in cabin baggage. Please ensure that electronic devices are charged and ready to be turned on for inspection.
Camera Film: All camera film should be stored in cabin baggage, as the screening equipment for checked-in baggage may damage the film. Film below ISO-1600 will not be harmed by cabin baggage screening equipment.
Musical Instruments: Excelsis Airways permit properly packed musical instruments to be checked in as hold baggage, subject to weight limit and additional item excess fees. Seats cannot be purchased for musical instruments, however small musical instruments may be permitted as part of the cabin baggage allowance.
Perishable Items: Changes in air pressure, long flights or delays may compromise some perishable items. Excelsis Airways assumes no liability for perishable items or any damage that they may cause.
Fragile Items: It is the passengers responsibility to ensure that fragile items are packed in a suitable way to prevent breakage. Excelsis Airways assumes no liability for fragile, valuable, or perishable articles including (but not limited to) money, jewellery, cameras, video and electronic equipment, silverware, musical instruments, business documents, samples, antiques, paintings, furs, manuscripts, or similar items.
Sporting Equipment
Sporting Equipment is subject to all excess baggage fees where applicable. (A charge will apply if the weight exceeds 23 kg, or if more than 2 pieces of baggage are checked in).
Limited Liability Release Tags (LRT) must be completed and signed by the passenger for all sporting equipment. Signed LRT's are valid on round trip flights with Excelsis Airways.
The following sporting equipment is permitted on board:
- Golf clubs: Golf clubs, balls and shoes that are packed in a suitable, protective bag. will be counted as 1 piece of luggage.
- Skis, boots, poles and snowboards: These are counted as 1 piece of luggage.
- Hockey equipment: counted as 1 piece of luggage.
- A single fishing rod and tackle box: Fishing rods must be encased in a cylindrical fishing rod container.
- Bicycles: Passengers are responsible for proper packaging of the bicycle. The tires must be partially deflated, handle bars secured and both pedals removed.
- Sports rackets: These may be carried on board the aircraft.
- Firearms: In accordance with UK laws, a passenger who presents baggage containing a firearm must complete and sign a declaration form which confirms that the firearm is unloaded and placed in a suitable locked container before such baggage will be checked into the hold.
- Ammunition: Up to 5 kg of ammunition may be carried in checked-in baggage, provided it is securely packed in a box and marked accordingly.
Hazardous Materials
- All items classified as hazardous materials are forbidden from carriage on Excelsis Airways flights. These materials include, but are not limited to, flammable gases (liquid and solids), non flammable gases, compressed gases, explosives, toxic and infectious substances, corrosives, oxidizing agents, radioactive material and magnetized material.
Baggage
Packing Requirements
- Please ensure that all baggage is clearly marked with your name, address and telephone number. Excelsis Airways ID tags are available at the check-in desk.
- We recommend that passengers also include this information inside their baggage.
- Please remove or secure loose handles, hooks and straps.
- It is important to mote that substances that are capable of posing risks to health, safety, property or the environment when transported (for example cleaning solvents, aerosols or other common items) are not permitted on board the aircraft.
- Infants are not granted a baggage allowance. However, nappies, bottles for feeding and sufficient food for the journey may be carried free of charge.
Baggage Limitations
- Excelsis Airways applies the following limitations on passenger baggage, based on the volume and weight limitations of its aircraft. Please note that additional baggage restrictions may be imposed at the airport without prior notice, for security or otherwise.
Checked Baggage
- Up to 2 pieces of baggage with a combined weight of 23 kg (50 lbs) is accepted free of charge for each fare-paying passenger.
- For passengers booked under the same reservation, the total weight of baggage is combinable.
- No single piece of baggage must exceed 32 kg (70 lbs).
- Checked-in baggage must not exceed the maximum size of 158 cm (62 in), calculated as the sum of the length, width and height. The only exceptions to this limit are skis, snowboards and hockey equipment.
Excess Baggage Charges
- Baggage that exceeds 23 kg (50 lbs) will be subject to a charge of £5.00 for every additional kg.
- In addition to the above, there is a charge of £25.00 for every additional bag.
Cabin Baggage
- Passengers are permitted to carry one bag, measuring no more than 55x40x23cm (20x16x10 inches) as well as one personal article/possession measuring no more than 33x43x16 cm (13x17x6 inches).
- Each of these items must weigh no more than 9 kg (20 lbs).
- Items that present a potential hazard are not permitted in cabin baggage. They include, but are not limited to, weapons, tools, restraining devices, toy weapons, cutting / puncturing devices (knives, box cutters, scissors, straight razors) ice skates and other hazardous items as defined and regulated by law including explosives, poisons, and toxic materials.
- All cabin baggage must fit in the size-checkers located at check-in and at the boarding gate.
- Whilst on board the aircraft, all cabin baggage must be stowed either under the seat or in the overhead compartments provided.
- Please note that the following items are not counted as cabin baggage: coats, cameras, receptacles containing human remains, containers carrying life sustaining items, strollers, child restraint systems, crutches, canes, walkers and other similar items.
- Excelsis Airways may require that an item of cabin baggage be checked into the hold, if the bag cannot be safely stowed in the cabin.
Connecting Flights
- Passengers arriving on flights from the European Union into Durham Tees Valley Airport must claim and clear all bags through customs, before proceeding to domestic connecting flights.
- Duty free items purchased in the European Union must be placed in checked luggage, before re-entering security and proceeding to connecting domestic flights.
- Passengers arriving on a domestic flight and connecting to an EU destination will have their luggage transferred from the point of origin through to the final EU destination.
Delayed Baggage
In the unlikely event that baggage is delayed in transit, please be advised of the following:
- Delayed luggage must be reported to Excelsis Airways in writing, within 4 hours of the passenger’s arrival at the destination airport.
- Excelsis Airways will not be liable for any claim or action unless a written report is filed in accordance with the terms set out in the tariff.
- If a claim is made at the airport, our staff will complete a baggage irregularity report. You will be asked for contact information, a description of the bag and its’ contents, to help us search for and identify the bag.
- Most delayed luggage will be recovered and delivered to you within hours. If your luggage has not been returned to you after 24 hours, you will be issued an electronic voucher worth £25.00 per day for up to 5 days. The voucher can be used on future flights with Excelsis Airways, by simply telephoning our call centre on XXXX-XXX-XXX and stating your name.
- If the bag has not been located after 5 days, the bag file will be turned over to the central baggage department at Durham Tees Valley.
- If the bag has not been located after 30 days, a list of contents along with receipts will be forwarded to our Head Office. The list will be evaluated and our Finance Department will process the settlement (please see liability limitations).
Damaged Baggage
- Damaged baggage must be reported to Excelsis Airways in writing within 4 hours of the passenger’s arrival at the destination airport.
- Excelsis Airways will not be liable for any claim or action, unless a written report is filed in accordance with the terms set out in the tariff.
- When a baggage repair is reported and approved by Excelsis Airways, you will either be offered settlement in the form of travel vouchers equal to the cost of repair, or Excelsis Airways will arrange to have your baggage repaired at our local approved repair centre. The repair will be paid for by Excelsis Airways, up to a maximum cost of £250.00.
- Excelsis Airways assumes no liability for damage that has occurred as a result of normal wear and tear, including (but not limited to) scratches, nicks, missing straps, zip damage, handles (including retractable tube handles), scuffs, dents, soiling, manufacturers defects, wheels, clips and seams, or as a result of over-packed baggage.
Liability
- For domestic travel, Excelsis Airways' maximum liability for lost baggage and lost contents because of damage is £500.00 per person, per incident. Excelsis Airways will require proof of loss.
Please note: Excelsis Airways assumes no liability for items such as, but not limited to, money, jewellery, silverware, negotiable papers, securities or other valuables, business documents, samples, keys, liquids, food and other perishables, computers, prescription drugs, photographic equipment, video equipment, cellular telephones, cameras, other electronic devices, artistic items, glass, musical instruments, equipment, sporting goods and any other fragile or perishable item.
Lost and Found
Although Excelsis Airways are not responsible for lost or misplaced items, we will always try to assist in locating a lost item. If you are trying to locate a lost item, please contact XXXX-XXX XXX. Unclaimed items will not be held at the airport for more than 14 days.
